Who we are
MacroMax is provided with support from Gymex Fitness Ltd (“MacroMax”, “we”, “our” or “us”). For privacy enquiries, contact admin@gymex-fitness.co.uk.
Information we process
- Account information: an Appwrite user identifier and session are created so cloud diary records can be associated with you. If you choose to protect or upgrade the account, we also process the name and email address you provide.
- Nutrition and diary information: foods, brands, portions, meal types, dates, calories, protein, carbohydrate, fat, fibre and other nutrient values you save.
- Meal photographs: a photograph you choose for AI meal analysis is transmitted for processing. You review the resulting estimate before adding it to your diary.
- Searches and barcodes: food-search text and product barcodes are sent to the food-data provider to return matching products.
- Support communications: information you include when you contact us.
Information that stays on your device
Your personal Gemini API key is stored using secure iOS storage and is not stored in the MacroMax database. Profile-photo files, notification preferences and local AI cost estimates are also kept on your device unless a feature clearly tells you otherwise.
How we use information
We use information to provide food logging, calculate nutrition totals, synchronise your diary, analyse meal photographs, return food-search results, maintain account access and respond to support requests. We do not sell personal information, run third-party advertising or use your information to track you across other companies’ apps and websites.
Service providers
- Appwrite: authentication, cloud diary storage and server-side meal-analysis requests, hosted in the Frankfurt region.
- Google Gemini: processes meal photographs and the accompanying analysis instructions. When you provide a personal key, requests are sent directly to Google under the terms attached to that key.
- Open Food Facts: returns product and nutrition information for searches and barcode lookups.
- Apple: distributes the app and provides device services such as secure storage, camera permissions and notifications.
These providers process information under their own terms and privacy commitments. We share only what is needed to provide the feature you requested.
Legal basis
Where UK or European data-protection law applies, we process account and diary information to provide the service you request. Optional meal-photo analysis is performed when you choose to use it. We may process limited records where necessary to protect the service, meet legal obligations or respond to a valid request.
Retention and deletion
Local information remains on your device until you remove it or uninstall the app. Cloud diary and account records are retained while your account is active and then deleted or anonymised when no longer needed, subject to legal obligations.
You can request deletion of your MacroMax account and associated cloud data by emailing admin@gymex-fitness.co.uk. We may ask for limited information to verify that the request relates to your account.
Your choices and rights
You can decline camera or photo-library access and continue using manual search and barcode features. You can choose whether to add a personal Gemini API key. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, correct, erase, restrict or receive a copy of your personal information, and to complain to your local data-protection authority.
Children and younger users
MacroMax is intended for people aged 14 and over. Users under 18 should involve a parent, guardian or qualified healthcare professional when setting nutrition or weight goals. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 14; contact us if you believe this has occurred.
Health information and safety
Nutrition values and AI results are estimates and may be incomplete or inaccurate. MacroMax is a general wellness tool, not a medical device, and does not diagnose, treat or prevent any condition. Seek professional advice before making significant dietary changes, particularly if you are under 18, pregnant, managing a health condition or have a history of disordered eating.
Security and international processing
We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards, but no online service is completely risk-free. Appwrite data is configured for the Frankfurt region. Google and Open Food Facts may process requests in other countries under their respective arrangements.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as MacroMax changes. The effective date at the top will show the latest revision. Material changes will be communicated in the app or through another appropriate channel.
